Classic Vs Modern Websites

At Universal Computing we categorise between two main types using the terminology, classic, and modern.

We use the term Classic to describe websites that use visual builders. Visual builders use a drag-and-drop interface which is more intuitive and user-friendly for non-technical users, making it very appealing to clients that want to make large-scale content changes without the need to edit code.

Our Modern websites are a little more complex to build, we use extensions to the WordPress builder itself, removing dependencies for any 3rd party builder software which minimises page load time, remember, load time is now a core metric used by search engines to affect rankings.

Ease of use: Modern Websites require more effort and time to create a custom design so can be more expensive to build. In contrast, Classic websites using drag-and-drop interfaces are faster to build, more intuitive and user-friendly for non-technical users.
Customisation: Modern website blocks can be customized with CSS or third-party plugins, but the options are limited compared to Classic website design blocks. Classic builders have been around longer and offer more customization options, including the ability to create custom templates and styles, and access to a vast library of pre-built widgets and modules.
Performance: The blocks of our Modern websites are built/installed into WordPress core, they are lightweight and don’t require additional resources to run. In contrast, Classic websites rely on third-party builders that can slow down the website’s performance if they are not optimized correctly.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and the choice depends on the specific needs and preferences of the website owner. If you need more information about this, don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will help you decide which is the best website type for your business.
