WHAT WE CHECK

Cyber Essentials readiness, from first check to submission.

Cyber Essentials covers five technical controls set by the National Cyber Security Centre. We check each one, fix what needs fixing and help you submit.

01FIREWALLS

Firewalls and internet gateways

Routers and firewalls checked and configured, so only the connections you need are open.

02CONFIGURATION

Secure configuration

Default passwords changed, software you don’t use removed and devices set up securely.

03UPDATES

Security update management

Operating systems and apps kept up to date, with unsupported software replaced.

04ACCESS

User access control

Admin rights limited, accounts reviewed and multi-factor sign-in switched on where it’s needed.

05MALWARE

Malware protection

Protection on every device in scope, checked and working.

06SUBMISSION

Help to submit

We help you answer the question set and submit it to the certification body, and stay on hand if the assessor asks anything.

HOW IT WORKS

From a free review to your certificate.

We start with a free security review. Then we check your setup against the five controls and give you a plain-English list of fixes in priority order.

Next, we fix the gaps with you and help you complete the assessment. An assessor marks it, and IASME says most assessors aim to return results within three days. If something needs changing, you have two working days to fix it and resubmit at no extra charge.

Matt looks after our networking, cybersecurity and IT work. Certificates last 12 months, so we can check everything again before you renew.

  • A free security review to start

FAQ

Cyber Essentials: the questions we hear most.

Something else? Call 01383 840808, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Cyber Essentials is the minimum standard of cyber security recommended by the UK Government for organisations of all sizes. It was developed by the National Cyber Security Centre, and it covers five technical controls: firewalls, secure configuration, security update management, user access control and malware protection.

Both cover the same five controls. Cyber Essentials is a self-assessment that an assessor checks. Cyber Essentials Plus adds a hands-on technical audit of your systems.

IASME’s certification fees start at £320 + VAT for organisations with up to nine employees, and rise with size. Our readiness work is quoted separately after the free review, once we know what needs fixing.

Twelve months. To renew, you complete the assessment again. The questions can change between years, so a check before you start is worthwhile.

No. Certification comes from an IASME-licensed certification body. We get you ready, help you complete the assessment and support you through submission. We’re Cyber Essentials certified ourselves, so we know the process from the inside.

According to the NCSC, any UK organisation with a turnover under £20 million that certifies its whole organisation is automatically entitled to cyber liability insurance arranged by IASME.

It guards against the most common cyber attacks and shows customers and suppliers that you take cyber security seriously. Some public sector contracts also require it.

IASME runs a public certificate search, so customers and suppliers can look up your organisation once your certificate is issued.

Yes. Most readiness work can be done remotely, so we help businesses across Scotland. When a visit helps, our engineers work on site across Fife and Central Scotland, including Edinburgh and Glasgow.
